Confectioners do not have enough milk powder

The confectionery industry suffers from a shortage of dried milk due to a ban on its import from Belarus. Such a message association of confectionery enterprises Askond addressed in a letter to the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

In the letter, the executive director of Ascond Vyacheslav Lashmankin explained that, since dry milk is added to the product without additional processing, the requirements for the ingredient are very high. The acute shortage of dried milk in the Russian confectionery industry leads to the fact that the product, which does not meet certain quality parameters, is often dried. As a consequence, such a substandard product can not be used in the manufacture of confectionery. According to the estimates of the specialists of Ascond, Russian milk powder covers only 50% of the needs of producers. The remaining half was provided earlier by suppliers from foreign countries, which were later replaced by Belarusian ones. "Certified manufacturers of high-quality dry milk in Russia are few, and their production is on average 15-20% more expensive than Belarusian counterparts," Lashmankin specified.

Restrictions on the supply of certain types of milk and dairy products from Belarus have been introduced since June 6. Yulia Melano, an official representative of the Rosselkhoznadzor, explained that restrictive measures were taken because "insecure dairy products continue to arrive from Belarus." Violations were found in milk and cream, pasteurized and sterilized in bulk, milk and cream of dry, concentrated, canned and condensed, serum, whey and milk protein concentrate.
