Choosing eggs: Brown or white?

It is generally accepted that healthier chickens lay eggs with brown shells. This is actually a myth, experts say. Brown eggs are laid by hens with red combs, while white eggs are laid by hens, which have white feathers and light-colored combs. According to poultry farmers, these are the only differences between brown eggs and white ones.

As for the taste, but it is the same for both varieties of eggs. It should be noted that the taste of the egg can be influenced by the feed that the hens ate. The strength of the shell of an egg depends on the age of the hen: the younger the hen, the stronger the shell. As a rule, eggshells are of the same thickness. Most likely, the opinion that brown eggs are more healthy, arose due to the cost of an egg: consumers noticed that brown ones are somehow more expensive than white ones.

In fact, the cost of eggs directly depends on how much feed the hens ate. Given that breeds with red scallops are often larger than their counterparts with light scallops, they eat more food. So it's no surprise that brown eggs are more expensive. However, the above egg myth is widespread not only in Russia, but also in Europe, as well as in North and South America.
