Compound feed home or purchased: what is better?

The question of which feed is better - home or purchased, is relevant for many poultry farmers. Some people think that homemade mixes are quite capable of providing the poultry with all the necessary nutrients, but is this true? Agro-industrial portal AGRO XXI decided to get answers from experts.

Usually, poultry farmers consider the cost of domestic feed its advantage. But, by reducing the costs of introducing certain ingredients, the poultry farmer risks obtaining, albeit a cheaper, but less nutritious product. Modern formulations are significantly different from the simple feed mix in Soviet times. This is largely due to the fact that getting a sick or unproductive livestock is completely unprofitable even in a small farm, not to mention large farms. Moreover, the feed mill industry in Russia is actively developing.

Experts of the large agricultural holding Bely Fregat, commenting on this topic to the AGRO XXI portal, reported that the volume of feed production in Russia is growing from year to year and, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, by 2020 will reach 30.8M tons. Mixed feed production is not as simple as it seems. It combines the experience of veterinarians, poultry farmers, their professional experience, scientific knowledge. Also, a considerable part is occupied by laboratory studies that require material costs. Careful input control of raw materials and control of finished feed, which can only be carried out within the framework of industrial production, guarantees safety and consistent quality of feed. Do it all at home is problematic. According to industry experts, any production process requires a thorough professional approach, which includes tactics and methods of not only work experience, but also the interaction of people from different specialties, whose work is combined into one whole and gives a full-fledged result.

In any case, it is the economic efficiency of the use of compound feeds, and not the parameters of the 'high cost' or 'cheapness' of feed, is the final and decisive indicator of the definition of the correct answer to this question.
