Packaged seeds failed inspection in Omsk

The Laboratory of Quarantine Phytosanitary Examinations and Surveys of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (Omsky Biocluster member) as a result of the herbological examinations identified a quarantine harmful weed, a dodder. It was found in bags of sowing material of Chinese origin, brought from Moscow.

Dodder is a dangerous parasitic plant that combines greater viability with high fecundity. Experts warn that the seeds of many species of dodder in mass, shape, and often in color are very similar to the seeds of cultivated plants, which are parasitic, and can be distinguished only with a careful examination. This fact makes it difficult to use conventional seed separation techniques. Experienced Omsk Reference Center can provide expert assistance in the study of seed.

Information about the results of the examination of this sample by specialists was sent to the Omsk Branch of Rosselkhoznadzor.
