Meat consumption will reach 110m tons in 2025

Jorge Torelli, an Institute for the Promotion of Argentine Beef (IPCVA) expert, believes that pastoralists and meat producers should implement new strategies to take advantage of the unique situation that has arisen in the world meat markets and strengthen their positions in the medium and long term. The evolution in world meat consumption is as follows: in 2012 this figure was 60 million metric tons of meat, and according to preliminary estimates, by 2025 this figure will increase to 110 million metric tons.

"The challenge is sustainable production of livestock products, so to take advantage of this excellent opportunity, meat producers need to just move in this direction," the expert notes. Improving productivity also plays an important role, but the trends that are currently observed in the global meat market are important for producers. "The vast majority of manufacturers and suppliers should rethink their role in the supply chain, and who is not ready for this is likely to disappear from the market in the medium term," Torelli said during a seminar with producers of livestock from Argentina.
