Russia wants to strengthen measures against sanctioned products

The head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (FSVPS), Sergey Dankvert, proposes to strengthen measures to combat smugglers who import prohibited products into Russia. The FSVPS head to combat violators proposed to introduce liability for carriers and transport drivers (confiscation of cars and goods, import ban for drivers for five years). Thus, if each carrier understands responsibility, then the flow of sanctioned products will decline.

Dankvert noted that unscrupulous suppliers are trying to prove that their products were brought from countries that are not included in the embargo. False transit and other criminal schemes are also used. However, violators still come across. However, violations are still recorded. The corresponding proposals have been submitted to the government of the Russian Federation. It is expected that the amendment of the legislation will be able to radically change the situation with the illegal supply of sanctioned products to the territory of Russia.

Russia in August 2014 banned the import of certain types of agricultural products, raw materials and food from countries that imposed anti-Russian sanctions, including from the United States, EU countries, Canada, Australia and Norway. The ban includes meat, sausages, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits, dairy products.

As the sanctions persist, Russia has extended its response as well, while the supply ban is in effect until the end of 2020.
