The draft law on the introduction of the concept of 'geographical name' for legal protection of territorial brands as independent objects of intellectual property was developed in the Federation Council, the speaker of the upper house of parliament Valentina Matvienko stated.
According to the senator, the list of objects of legal protection requires adjustments. "Along with the names of places of origin of goods, geographical indications should be protected in legal terms as independent objects of intellectual property," Matvienko said. The bill is in a high degree of readiness, but requires some clarification.
