The head of the Ministry of Agriculture considers the state grain intervention as a 'harmful' mechanism, destabilizing the situation in the grain market. It is more efficient now, according to Alexander Tkachev, to subsidize its transportation for export.
"We consider state intervention to be partly a harmful mechanism, why? And so much grain, elevators are full, grain is bought, and there is no place for it," Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev said on Wednesday, January 17, in the Federation Council. According to the Minister, other support measures are now more effective for stabilizing prices, in particular, stimulating exports.
Alexander Tkachev told the Federation Council about the shortage of wagons for the transportation of grain. With the export potential of 45 million tons of grain this season it is necessary to increase the number of wagons by 20-25%, the minister said. "Together with the Ministry of Transport we are working on this issue: the need for additional cars is about 7,000 units," Tkachev said.
