Palm oil imports to Russia grew 2.3 times in May

Russia in May 2020 increased the import of palm oil and its fractions by 2.3 times in physical terms compared to May last year - up to 113,000 tons, according to Rosstat.

 

Compared to April 2020, palm oil shipments in May increased 1.65 times. In January-May, the volume of imports amounted to 413,000 tons, which is 0.7% more than in the same period last year. The import of coconut, palm kernel oils, babassu oil and their fractions into the country in five months increased by 37% - up to 44,800 tons. In May, imports of these goods amounted to 11,800 tons, having increased fourfold in annual terms and by 40.8% in monthly terms.

 

Imports of sunflower, safflower, cottonseed oils and their fractions in January-May fell by 76.2%, to 400 tons. In May, deliveries amounted to 100 tons, which is 56.5% less than in May 2019, but 5.5 times more than in April 2020. According to Rosstat, imports of palm oil to Russia in 2019 increased by only 0.1% compared to the previous year - to 1,061,000 tons. Indonesia and Malaysia are the main countries that supply these products to the Russian Federation.
