Russian knapweed was found in the party of watermelons arriving in Omsk

Experts of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (Omsky Biocluster member) in the litter samples for watermelons that came to Omsk from the Astrakhan region identified a Russian knapweed, which is prohibited in the Russian Federation.

Russian knapweed is a heat-loving, light-loving, salt-tolerant and very drought-resistant weed plant that grows well on both loose and compacted soils. It causes significant damage to all cultivated plants, fully or partially reducing the yield and its quality. It also has the ability to multiply root shoots, segments of roots and rhizomes, and by moving seeds the weed spreads to new regions.

Information about the results of the examinations of this sample were sent to the Rosselkhoznadzor - Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Omsk Branch).
