Pathogens are found in almost every batch of seeds

The plant protection laboratory of the Omsk Reference Center of Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) analyzed 195 batches (38083 tons of seeds of the crop in 2017). As a result of the research, the specific composition of pathogens is revealed, the degree of contamination of seeds of agricultural crops is estimated, which helps to select the chemical and biological disinfectants correctly.

There are practically no lots of seeds that are not infected with pathogenic microorganisms. The contamination of seeds with alternaria seed is also high. Seeds affected by this disease are physiologically underdeveloped, have a low germination energy. On average in the Omsk region, infection with alternaria seed seeds in 2017 was 35%.

Helminthosporiosis (parasitic fungus) is shown on wheat seeds, but a particularly high percentage of infection is noted on barley seeds. Pathogen causes root rot and death of seedlings. Pathogens are noted in each batch of seeds from 2% to 45% of the total mass. A smaller degree of seed damage is marked by a disease such as septoriosis.

Seed is one of the sources of conservation and spread of diseases of agricultural crops. Specialists of the Department of Seed Production and Plant Protection of the Omsk Reference Center of Rosselkhoznadzor are ready to help determine the degree of threat and expediency of applying plant protection products, to reach the ultimate goal of all farmers - to obtain the maximum harvest of the best quality with the least cost.
