Omsk region struggles with weeds

Cultivation of crops in the fields must necessarily be accompanied by annual systematic surveys that will help to identify and destroy dangerous quarantine weeds in a timely manner, this will become a guarantee not to get on the list of quarantine zones or to lose the entire crop. Only for the Q1 2018, when carrying out phytosanitary examinations, experts from the Omsk Reference Center (member of Omsky Biocluster) found three types of quarantine weeds.

Head of the laboratory of quarantine phytosanitary examinations and surveys of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor Artem Velegurov told us about the control of weeds:

"In order to prevent the spread of dangerous quarantine weeds, it is necessary to carry out preventive, agrotechnical and chemical measures. First of all, do not allow the sowing of crops with seeds that are littered with such weeds. That is, the seeds must have a document confirming the quarantine expertise of this particular party."

During the vegetation period, it is necessary to  make systematic examinations. They can be carried out by persons with the necessary knowledge in the field of plant quarantine. On the territory of Omsk region, only specialists of the Omsk Reference Center can provide qualified assistance.

Quarantine weeds are the cause of a decline in yield and, as a result, bring economic damage to agricultural producers. They adversely affect the health of humans and animals, and substances released by some quarantine weeds are inhibitors of plant growth. Therefore, it is very important to make phytosanitary examinations and examinations in a timely manner.
