Rains threaten Omsk farmers

The Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Omsk Region, Nikolai Drofa, held a conference call on the emergency situation in the region. The main attention was paid to determining the boundaries of those areas where there is a waterlogging or overwetting of the soil to introduce emergencies, as well as insurance of crops and the fight against plant diseases.

The unstable nature of the weather in June caused a serious situation in the Omsk region, which leads to flooding of crops in certain territories in the regions, as well as to overmoistening of the soil. On June 26, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Omsk region, Nikolai Drofa, held a conference call on the emergency situation in the region due to the precipitated rainfall. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Natural Resources and Ecology, the Regional Security of the Omsk region, the EMERCOM of Russia (Omsk Branch), the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor), the Agrarian Scientific Center and the Hydrometeorological Center.

Torrential rains in some areas still do not allow for the completion of sowing. In addition, crops that have already risen, which may die due to too moist soil, are under threat of death. The emergency mode due to overmoistening of the soil can be declared in 9 districts of the Omsk region. As Nikolai Drofa noted, crops in some areas are in a critical condition, and in some places there is a death of crops. The Minister appealed to the heads of districts and heads of agricultural departments with the requirement of daily monitoring of the situation.
