Trump's trade war: more meat for the US

Americans reduced their consumption of chicken and eat more beef and pork, as President Trump’s trade wars reduce US pork exports to China and Mexico and leave more cheap meat in the domestic market.

The chicken sector of the US economy was faced with a reduction in consumer demand in the fourth quarter of 2018. The US Department of Agriculture predicts that per capita consumption of chicken meat will increase by only 1.2% next year, compared with 4.3% growth for pork and 2.6% for beef. Pork prices fell as reciprocal duties were introduced in China and Mexico, which reduced US pork exports to these countries.
