Countries that occupy the first three places in the ranking of producers of European pork, send to a third country a total of 58% of all EU exports.
Despite the fact that sales of pork to third countries decreased significantly (by 21%), Germany continues to hold a leading position in the ranking of the largest exporters of this meat. Its result for the first half of 2017 was 611 thousand tons. This means that Germany has a 23% share in European exports of pork to foreign markets. The second place in the rating belongs to Spain, which for the first six months of this year reduced exports only 3% compared to the previous year and sold 544 thousand tons of pork. Thus, the share of Spain in the export of this product is 20% of the market of the EU. Denmark has the third place and a decent result of 15% market share. The fourth and fifth positions are occupied by the Netherlands and France, which have 12% and 7% of the share of European pork exports. The other five countries are Poland (6%), which suffers most from the ASF (in the first half of 2017, the Poles sold 14% less pork than the year before), then the United Kingdom (4%), Italy, Ireland and Belgium (3%).
From January to September 2017, EU countries sold 3.7 million tonnes of pork to third countries (10% less than in the same period last year). The main reason is a drop in demand from China.
