British pork exports set new records

The UK exported 19,500 tons of fresh / frozen pork in November 2018, increasing shipments by 5% compared with the same month in 2017, according to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

China imported 4,900 tonnes of British pork in November last year, showing an increase in shipments of 81% year over year. An increase was also noted for the supply of pig meat to Germany and Ireland, while supplies to Hong Kong and Denmark decreased.

AHDB analyst Rebecca Oborne says that the total cost of shipments of fresh / frozen pork abroad increased by 7% to £ 26.4 million due to higher average prices for pork products. Export of pork as a whole (including offal) also increased during the month (+ 3% or 1000 tons), to 31,800 tons. Shipments of lard and processed pork are increasing, although offal have registered a decline, says Ms. Oborne.
