The stage of entry into force of changes in the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) "On the safety of milk and dairy products" has ended. During this time, manufacturers of dairy products containing vegetable fats had to align packaging and new declarations of conformity for products with changed names and labeling. From January 16, 2019, manufacturers of milk-containing products of EAEU countries with milk fat substitute should place on the packaging information on the presence of vegetable oils in the product.
Now consumers will be able to clearly distinguish between products with or without the addition of a milk fat substitute; they will receive information on which product they are buying: milk, milk compound, milk-containing or milk-containing with milk fat substitute.
The legislation determined that until January 16, 2019, manufacturers could produce milk-containing products with milk fat substitute and sell them if they have documents on assessment of compliance with technical regulations issued before July 16 of last year, that is, until the day the changes came into force. At the same time, the turnover of products manufactured before January 16, 2019 is allowed during the entire shelf life of such products, as established by its manufacturer.
The manufacturer is obliged to specify information on the presence of vegetable oils in the milk-containing product with milk fat substitute. The inscription 'Contains vegetable oils' is entered in the information field, specially marked on the package or label, in a font that is contrast to the color of the field. In this case, the manufacturer has the right to choose the color scheme of the label and packaging. The name of a milk-containing product with a milk fat substitute should begin with the words 'milk-containing product with a milk fat substitute.' Information on the production technology of such a product is indicated in the form of the words 'produced (manufactured) according to the technology' indicating the concept established for the corresponding dairy product. For example, 'a milk-containing product with a substitute for milk fat, produced by sour cream technology.'
