Russian poultry is in crisis

Poultry in Russia faced difficulties for the first time in 20 years. Most experts qualify the situation in the poultry industry as catastrophic. Last year, the production of more than a dozen large Russian poultry farms closed or sharply reduced. The reason is outbreaks of bird flu. If at the end of December 2017, the Rosselkhoznadzor recorded 35 foci of this disease, then on the same date of 2018, 82 named foci. In general, 10% of the livestock was destroyed.

The average wholesale price of poultry meat from January 2018 to January 2019, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, increased by 21.8% to 117.2 thousand RUR per ton ($ 1.78 thousand). In retail, chickens rose in price more noticeably, by 22.4% (in the middle of January 2018, a kilogram cost 125.1 RUR ($ 1.9), in January 2019, 152.7 RUR ($ 2.32).

The cost of production is growing due to higher prices for feed, gasoline and diesel fuel. During the year, feed grain rose in price by 35 - 45%, soybean meal - by 10 - 15%, feed additives - by 10 - 20%. Meanwhile, feed in the cost of production of poultry products occupy 60% and more. Well, plus the fuel has risen in price by 10 - 15%. Result: financial problems are growing at the poultry farms, and investors are in no hurry to invest in new projects.

Chicken from a food point of view is universal. Chicken is the most popular meat in the retail trade of all cities and regions of the country. Chicken meat is very popular in sausage production. Chicken meat is actively in demand in the fast food market - fast food. The popularity of the chicken was ensured by affordability, especially in the conditions of a falling solvency of the population. But for several months now, chicken has been going up in price.
