Farm machinery fleet in Kazakhstan is obsolete by more than 90%

The agricultural machinery park in Kazakhstan has become obsolete by 90-95%, the director general of Eurasia Group Kazakhstan Sergey Glocke stated, the portal Atameken Business Channel reported on March 26.

"Last year showed that the whole market is about 500 units. This is clearly not enough for the country. In 2007-2009, Kazakhstan supplied 350 combines annually, when the total market volume exceeded 2 thousand units. According to our data, the fleet of equipment is obsolete by 90-95%. Update requires that the supply of equipment is about 6-8 thousand units per year. At the rate of renewal of 6% per year for 5 years, only 30% of combine harvesters will be able to be renewed, which will lead to an overestimated expense for maintenance, large fuel consumption and grain losses," Sergey Glocke noted.

Also, according to the director of the Department of Scientific, Technological and Technical Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Azat Sultanov, today in the country there are about 40 thousand combine harvesters and 148.3 thousand tractors, of which 72% and 86% are older than 10 years, respectively. The rate of renewal over the past five years has varied between 3-4.9%, but this figure should reach 6-8% annually.

It is noted that 1,255 thousand harvesters were sold in 2016, and by the end of 2017 their sales fell to 963 units, while in 2017 2.220 thousand tractors were purchased against 2.596 in 2016. However, by 2022, the government of Kazakhstan hopes to achieve the optimal renewal of the fleet of agricultural machinery and ensure the volume of investments in machinery to 240 billion tenge ($ 752.59 million), which will attract the interest of world producers to the opening of new assembly enterprises.

Director of Omsk Experimental Plant FSUE (member of Omsky Biocluster), Ph.D. Dmitry Golovanov supports the initiative of the Government of Kazakhstan to increase the pace of renewal of the agricultural machinery fleet:

"Today, Kazakhstan and Russia are among the lagging countries in terms of energy supply and power-to-weight ratio in agricultural production. Reducing the fleet of machinery and accelerating its removal from service leads to an increase in the load on the remaining machines, which leads to increased wear and tends to affect the timing and quality of the technological operations performed. Today, Russian agricultural machinery industry can actively participate in the program of updating the machinery fleet of Kazakhstan and offer a wide range of modern equipment of decent quality. Enterprises of our region also have good prospects for the supply of machinery and equipment to the Republic of Kazakhstan. Omsk technology has already proved itself well, the products of Omsk agricultural machinery are in demand not only in our region. Territory of sales is extensive - both to the east and west. The products of Omsk machine-building enterprises in Kazakhstan successfully compete not only with Russian manufacturers, but also with foreign equipment. We are ready to help our neighbors, Kazakh agrarians, in updating the agricultural machinery fleet.
