Sodruzhestvo Group, one of the leading processors of oil-bearing crops in Europe, intends to invest at least 10 billion rubles ($ 162.16 million) in the construction of a plant for the processing of oilseeds and transshipment of grain in Ulyanovsk region. According to the press service of the regional government, the corresponding agreement on intentions was signed by the governor of Ulyanovsk region Sergey Morozov and the director of the Sodruzhestvo Managing Company Dmitry Savenkov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The agreement provides for the construction of a transshipment grain terminal, which will be able to hold up to 1 million tons of products. As explained by Savenkov, Sodruzhestvo is the largest exporter of agricultural cargo from Russia and now creates a network of agrologistic centers. "We are interested in this site, since it enables us to ship not only by rail, but also along the river. Ulyanovsk will become for us a key point where we will collect grains and oilseeds and transport them for processing to Kaliningrad and then for export. We will build in the next two years to achieve these goals in Ulyanovsk region a modern elevator with the possibility of shipment by rail and river," Savenkov said.
In addition, the company plans to build an oil extraction plant for deep processing of oilseeds. The plant will process 2 thousand tons of soybeans and sunflower per day, receiving oil and cake at the output. According to Sergey Morozov, the project will be launched next year, construction is scheduled to be completed in 2021. As the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources of Ulyanovsk region Mikhail Semenkin said, the agricultural producers of the region annually sow more than 200 thousand HA. "Ulyanovsk agrarians grow quality crops, but often there are problems on the further sequence - sales and processing. The arrival of the investor in this niche will help us to organize additional export lines," Morozov said. In addition, the project will allow the development of soybean production in the region, which will also increase the profitability of farmers. In 2018, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, soybean will occupy the region only less than 9 thousand HA.
