The President of the Russian Grain Union (RGU), Arkady Zlochevsky, does not exclude that domestic farmers in 2019 can break the record for the grain yield reached in 2017 in the amount of 135,500,000 tons.
"The forecast for the next season. I can not rule out that we will break this record. Everything leads to this. If the weather is favorable enough, then everything leads to exactly this," Zlochevsky said. The RGU head noted that now analysts predict a crop in the range from 119,000,000 to 127,000,000 tons. In his opinion, such forecasts are conservative and are associated with the desire of experts to play it safe.
Zlochevsky recalled that on the eve of receiving a record harvest in 2017, analysts gave a forecast in the range from 112,000,000 to 118,000,000 tons, because now the forecast is higher, then the harvest may be greater. According to Rosstat, in 2018, Russian farmers harvested 113,250,000 tons of grain; in 2017, the harvest was a record 135,500,000 tons. According to the Ministry of Agriculture forecast, a grain harvest in 2018 is expected to reach 118,000,000 tons.
