The government of the Russian Federation may impose restrictions on grain exports from the country in the event of a threat of rising bread prices, said Igor Artemyev, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia (FAS), on October 26.
"With this level of yield, which we reached this year, with this level of export, the government, if there is a threat of rising bread prices, can simply limit grain exports, and the price for it in the domestic market will fall sharply," said Artemyev.
Last week in Russia, suggestions were made about the possibility of rising prices for bread and bakery products. Producers explained the possibility of this measure by the increase in prices for wheat and, accordingly, for flour. In this regard, the FAS said that it would strengthen control over prices in the markets of flour, bread and bakery products and check the actions of regional producers, who warned about the risks of rising prices for bread, on their compliance with antimonopoly legislation.
