Omsk: oil in the soil

In mid-October, the Laboratory of quality and safety of products of animal and vegetable origin, feed and environmental objects of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) received two soil samples.

Laboratory specialists revealed in the samples the 5th level of oil pollution: 14520 mg / kg and 18574 mg / kg. This indicator is the highest on the adopted five-level scale.

Soil contamination with oil and petroleum products leads to significant physicochemical changes, manifested in changes in the microelement composition of the soil, its water-air and redox regimes. An excess of organic carbon-containing substances entering the soil with oil and oil products disrupts the normal ratio of carbon and nitrogen, and also leads to a deficiency of oxygen, nitrogen and phosphorus. Due to the deterioration of the agrochemical properties of the soil, the growth of grain, legumes and other crops is delayed. All substances that make up oil and oil products are toxic, often carcinogenic.
