Growth rates of cattle production in July this year accelerated to 10.7% from 7.2% in June, according to Rosstat. In total, 77,700 tonnes of live weight were produced.
However, despite these high indicators, the leader in terms of growth in the meat market is still pig production. In seven months, pig production increased by 10.9%. In July, pork production reached 344.5K tons, which is 12.1% more than in July last year.
Poultry production in July decreased by 2%, to 500,700 tons. For seven months, the growth in this industry was 2.4%. Experts explain the fall in the production of poultry meat by the epidemic of avian influenza - more than 40 foci of this disease have been recorded in Russia today. Damate Group suffered most from bird flu. The farms of the company that are located in Penza region, 470 thousand turkeys destroyed. This is 10% of the total holding herd, the company's losses amounted to 400M RUR ($ 5.88M).
In total, the volume of production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in agricultural organizations in Russia in 2017 increased by 7% by 2016 to 10.9M tons.
