Agronomists call on farmers to inspect and process wheat

Specialists of Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) examined the winter wheat crops growing in Omsk region. Here, the first udredustulae (oblong or roundish pads of bright orange color) of brown leaf rust were found.

Brown leaf rust exists throughout the growing season, but most intensively since the earing phase. If during this period the flag sheet is affected, the yield is reduced by 10% or more. Brown rust affects mainly the leaves and their bases, which reduces the germination of seeds, the grain yield, and worsens its quality. Sick plants are less resistant to low temperatures and drought, prone to lodging and injury to other diseases. The negative effect is intensified by warm and humid weather in the spring-summer period, a large reserve of infection, cultivation of susceptible varieties and sowing with non-etched seeds.

Specialists of Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor warn the agrarians of Omsk region about the need to provide field inspection and, according to the results, to process wheat with fungicides - substances designed specifically to combat fungal diseases of plants.
