Demand for organic products from Russia is growing in Europe

Russia plans to export organic agricultural products worth $ 5 billion over five years, Izvestia reports.

Demand for Russian organic products is growing in Europe. As Izvestia was informed in the Union of Organic Agriculture, the organization received a request from the Soil Association of Great Britain (the largest association of organic producers in the country with 14,000 members) about the possibilities of supplying organic products from Russia to the UK. The main traders from the Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy applied to the Union of Organic Agriculture with similar requests. Together with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economic Development, the Union is studying the export potential of Russian organic products - requests have already been sent to 20 countries that are the largest consumers of organic products.

The main interest of foreign traders is caused by cereals and legumes - wheat, corn, soy, barley, rye, polba, lupine, as well as rape, flax, etc. The minimum requested volume of the batch is 2 thousand tons.

Sergei Korshunov, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Organic Agriculture:

"The interest in Russian certified organic products is due to the fact that the world market of organic products has been steadily growing by 5-15% annually over the last ten years, and the number of certified lands is increasing insignificantly."

Russia, as Sergei Korshunov noted, has a huge potential in organic agricultural production (about 20-40 million hectares of land withdrawn from circulation, which have not been fertilized for more than five years). At the same time, 38% of the world's reserves of black earth and 20% of the world's fresh fresh water are concentrated in Russia. "On average, the margin for export organic agricultural products is 60-100% compared to the traditional one. At present, organic food grains have doubled in price, and the growth in prices for grain forage crops has amounted to about 75% or more compared to grain grown traditional methods."

Experts note that in 2016 organic wheat in European markets was worth about 320 euros per tonne (usual - 160 euros per tonne), and organic flax - 600 euros per ton (usual - 370 euros per ton). The total sales of organic products in the world, according to the British Agency for Statistics, is estimated at $ 81 billion.
