September 18, 2017, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Omsk region and the Omsky Biocluster Association held a seminar on effective livestock breeding with the participation of scientists, experts and interested specialists.
Livestock, in particular dairy cattle breeding, is one of the most complex industries that require long-term investment, where the period between investments and a positive financial result can be several years. The effectiveness of a particular enterprise depends on many factors, beginning with the genetic potential of animals and ending with technological methods.
Head of Omsky Biocluster's Genetics and Breeding of Cattle Practice Anatoly Shulakov:
"In our opinion, this sphere demonstrates the necessity and the maximum effectiveness of deep cooperation on the example of Omsky Biocluster, which united enterprises that breed dairy cattle, producers of mixed fodders, which ensure the realization of its capabilities, manufacturers of equipment for maintenance and milking, processors of manufactured products, as well as establishments of science and education, laboratory. At the same time, the most important element is personnel potential, which can provide or hinder the realization of opportunities. The sale of any quality of genetic material without the support of all other elements will be a deception, the realization of empty hopes, which will never come true.
During the discussion, the seminar participants discussed the introduction of modern reproduction technologies (artificial insemination, ultrasound scanning, sexed seed) and selection methods. Of great interest was the visit to the laboratory and the bio-storage facility (unique of the Urals), the demonstration of seed defrosting technology.
Director Generl of Moscovscoye JSC for Breeding Ivan Yanchukov stressed:
"It is very important that the leadership of the Omsk region pays attention to issues of livestock breeding. Only professional work aimed at improving the genetic potential of cattle will make the industry effective and competitive. Our Moscovscoye JSC for Breeding has been supplying high-quality breeding material to Omsk cattle breeders for eight years, which allows achieving meaningful results."
