The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia believes that now there is no need to regulate the price of meat through commodity interventions. This is reported by Izvestia with reference to the press service of the Ministry.
It was assumed that commodity interventions in the meat market would be conducted according to a scheme similar to grain interventions. The state begins to buy grain at the appearance of seasonal surplus, thereby not allowing prices to fall below cost. When there is a deficit, the state can expose the previously bought grain for sale, not allowing prices to rise to too high values.
As noted in the department, the introduction of such practices in the meat market is premature. At present, meat production volumes are stable, including due to a decrease in the proportion of farmers to a negligible level. The predominance of the farmer segment in pig production caused a significant difference in the volumes of production by quarters. Now meat producers have the opportunity to regulate the fattening population, taking into account the forecasts on demand and supply.
