Omsk SAU and the Russian Science Foundation are implementing a joint project

 Aleksey Morgunov, PhD, head of CIMMYT offices in Turkey (Ankara), paid a working visit of Omsk State Agrarian University (Omsk SAU). The purpose of the visit, which was held December 19-24, 2016 on the initiative of the Ph.D., prof. Vladimir Shamanin - joint implementation of the scientific project of the Russian Scientific Foundation (together with OmSAU) Phenotyping and Genotyping of Synthetic Hexaploid Wheat (T.Durum x Ae.Squarrosa) and the Identification of Useful Attribute Genes by the Associated Labeling Method for Increasing Resistance to Abiotic and Biotic Stresses in the Russian Conditions.

 

 

Meetings were held with the leadership of the university, leading scientists and staff of the university. Daily seminars were held, attended by the staff of the Laboratory of Selection and Seed Field Cultivation, the Laboratory of Genetics of Grain Cultures, as well as the Department of Agronomy, Selection and Seed Growing of OmSAU.

 

Particular attention was paid to methodical recommendations for the use of new equipment (produced by Omsk State Agrarian University for grant funds) for the research genetic laboratory. The remaining time was devoted to working with data on synthetics and long-term wheat, preparing articles in international journals and other relevant methodological issues.

 

Joint scientific activity with experts of international level helps our scientists to keep abreast of the latest trends in world science, to gain invaluable experience in implementing the largest scientific grants in Russia, and to publish in high-ranking international journals. It is gratifying that Aleksey Morgunov, despite his high workload and demand, finds time to visit OmSAU. Today we can say with full confidence that research in the field of genetics and selection of wheat in our university is conducted at the world level," said Vitaly Aleshchenko, vice-rector for scientific work at Omsk State Agrarian University.

 

General Information. CIMMYT - International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center; is a non-commercial research institute engaged in agricultural research. The International Center for the Improvement of Corn and Wheat has more than a hundred selection branches around the world, the headquarters are located in Mexico. Omsk SAU is a branch in Russia, which is assigned the role of coordinator of CIMMYT for spring wheat breeding and training of personnel in the Eurasian space.
