China is considering the introduction of mandatory use of ethanol in fuel by 2020. Biofuels, known as E10, will contain 10% of corn ethanol. The largest producer of ethanol in China is the COFCO (state-owned company).
To date, the mandatory use of ethanol in gasoline is customary in selected provinces of China. The official adoption of the national standard, following the example of the United States and Brazil, is still expected.
Last year, the authorities announced their intention to increase the production of ethanol by almost half by 2020 to unload the accumulated supplies of corn. Currently, reserves are estimated at 200 million tons, which corresponds to the annual consumption of corn in China.
