The lack of fodder protein in the livestock complex stimulates the appearance in the Russian Federation of projects for the protein production from insects.
Earlier, the Swiss network of grocery supermarkets COOP reported that it would start selling (August 2017) cutlets and meatballs made from insects.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Elena Astrakhantseva said earlier that the production of protein from insects could be one of the possible alternative directions for the production of fodder protein from plant raw materials:
"Such projects are already in existence in Russia today, the feeding of animals with such protein gives good results," Astrakhantseva said.
At the same time, the Omsky Biocluster experts see the production of protein from insects as nothing more than a forced measure, a supplement to the traditional ways of producing protein from vegetable raw materials. The reason is the traditional orientation of Russian mixed feeders and livestock breeders to vegetable protein. Besides, the cost of growing insects in Russian climatic conditions also requires additional study.
