Experts of the Laboratory of Quarantine Phytosanitary Examinations and Surveys of Omsk Reference Center of Rosselkhoznadzor have identified the seeds of thin-stemmed dodder.
As a result of herbarological examinations, the seeds of the thin-stalked dodder were found in consignments of seeds of green basil Aromatny (country of origin: Italy), as well as salad Moscow Greenhouse (country of origin: Russia). This weed is included in the List of pests, plant diseases and weeds that have a quarantine value for Russia. Thin-stemmed dodder plants do not have leaves and roots, but exist at the expense of plants affected by them. Seeds of dodder germinate in the spring, and their sprouts, twisting spirally, entwine the plant-victim and with the help of haustorium take away water and dissolved in it mineral nutrients. Information on the results of the expertise carried out by specialists of Omsk Reference Center was sent to the Office of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance in Omsk region.
