Russia: lack of grain storage capacity

Minister of Agriculture of Russia Alexander Tkachev expects this year to harvest at the level of 102-103 million tons, but there will be no place to store it. Contrary to the fact that the fees will not be record, as last year (120 million tons) the reserves of the past years remain high, Gazeta.ru reports.

According to Rosstat, as of July 1, 2017, the carrying stocks amounted to 15.35 million tons, this is 12% more than on July 1, 2016. At the same time, the number of storage capacities, taking into account the growing reserves of the intervention fund, has not increased. The total capacity of granaries in Russia, according to the Russian Grain Union, is 120 million tons, most of them were built in the Soviet period and have a degree of wear over 50%. The elevator storage capacity accounts for only about 34 million tonnes, while the remaining capacities are temporary ground warehouses.

The United Grain Company previously estimated the volume of granaries in 118 million tons, including 40 million tons - elevators, 63 million tons - ground warehouses, 15 million tons - storage of grain processors.
