European countries are aggressively using agricultural subsidies, Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin stated at an informal meeting of WTO member countries' trade ministers in Marrakesh.
According to the Russian minister, 'this harms competition.' Such aggressive subsidies are closing the market for better and cheaper Russian products. Moscow intends to seek the abolition of agricultural subsidies through the World Trade Organization, TASS reported. "Our priorities are: the abolition of subsidies and the reduction of subsidies on agriculture in the global market," Maxim Oreshkin stressed. In addition, the Minister considered it necessary to resolve issues with subsidies that promote illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing.
