Russian Grain Union: 50% of elevators worn out

This year Russia expects an excellent harvest of grain, which, according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Agriculture, can reach 110 million tons. The collected volumes will fully meet the country's needs. On this, perhaps, the pros of the grain ends. Then the problems begin.

While officials are proud of the volumes of grain that can be harvested, the agrarians do not know where to put the grain. According to the estimates of the Russian Grain Union, the storage capacity of grain storage facilities in Russia is 120 million tons, more than 50% of which are worn out. Annually the whole crop is not fully realized, and the remainders accumulate, taking the place of fresh grain. Taking into account the grain to be harvested in the current year, the carryover stocks will increase from 14.5 to 21.2 million tons. Coupled with the stocks of the intervention fund, this situation threatens a serious deficit of storage capacity of wheat.
