Imports of mutton to China demonstrated further growth during the first four months of 2017, as domestic demand continues to stimulate both growth in import volumes and prices.
In January-April 2017, imports of mutton to China amounted to 98.6 thousand tons, which is 8% more than in the previous year, this fact strengthened China's position as the world's largest lamb importer, with most of the goods coming from only two countries . The main deliveries come from New Zealand and Australia, the two largest lamb exporters in the world. The volumes coming from New Zealand amounted to 65,300 tons/year, which is two-thirds of the total shipments. The supply of Australia increased by almost 16% to 31,000 tonnes/year.
