The Internet of Things introduction will bring the Russian agro-industry 469 billion rubles

The minimal economic effect from the introduction of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in the agricultural sector can reach 469 billion rubles by 2025 (about 2.8 trillion rubles in general in the Russian economy). Such prediction was made by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) following the results of the IoT application in Russia. This is reported by the Agroinvestor.ru resource.

 

According to the UN forecasts, the provision of food for the entire population of the world by 2050 will require an increase in production by 70%. The introduction of IoT technologies in agriculture will increase labor productivity and competitiveness of the industry, analysts say. Technologies of 'smart' agriculture make it possible to maximally automate work in various segments of the agroindustrial complex, increase the yield and quality of products, while reducing costs.

 

PwC speaks about several fields of IoT application in agriculture: use of precision farming elements (GPS sensors and drones), equipping greenhouses with special sensors, devices and software for remote control of complexes, the use of sensors and devices for monitoring in livestock, monitoring of transport using GPS.

 

According to the draft program for the development of IoT in the agroindustrial complex, worked out by the Foundation for the Development of Internet Initiatives, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Communications, the Internet Society of Things and the Expert Council under the Government of Russia, by 2019 the share of Russian enterprises using IoT in the industry should reach 30%. Now, according to the authors of the document, these technologies are used by only about 0.05% of the agrarians.

 

Omsky Biocluster is currently considering the possibility of implementing pilot IoT projects at the enterprises of the agroindustrial complex of the region.
